1 more week until K I C K O F F!

The final count down begins until classes start and I c a n n o t wait! I am ready to put all of this practice and planning into action and watch the students soar.

To set up my room, I wanted everything to be accessible to the students for several reasons: excitement, independence, exploration and much more. You can see by my classroom tour not much is hidden! I am currently at two different schools in two different rooms { one in which I share with Art and one which is a l l m y o w n}. Many of the pictures that I share will be of Alpine Elementary where I have a large room to myself :)

F i r s t, I have a word wall for coding! I have grouped the coding

lessons into k - 2 and 3 - 5. Each group has their own set of words that will be exposed in a different order throughout the lessons. I debated about whether to put all the words up at once or expose them as we go... Final decision: put them all up at once. Again, to encourage those e x p l o r a t i o n and e x c i t e m e n t pieces. All of the vocabulary comes from the code.org express lessons.

S e c o n d, I took into account flexible seating options. I did not go crazy with ball seats or couches, but there are definitely some o p t i o n s! Students have the options of a standing table, wiggle stools, or traditional desk. I also have a designated area in the front of the room for c a r p e t t i m e (something n e w I learned from observing elementary classrooms).

T h i r d, I thought about accessibility to materials!

On the hooks are c o d i n g login information for when we use code.org lesson. Students will be able to find their grade level, teacher, and then individual card (all color coded and labeled of course). Next, there are gallon size bags that are n u m b e r e d with one pair of headphones and a mouse (also numbered). They are in groups of 5 bags per hook.

Lastly, you will see the littlebit pieces and snap circuit materials. These will come into play when we begin our electronics unit later in the year. Right now, they are out to encourage e x c i t e m e n t for the upcoming unit! More to come on how those will be organized when they are used for a specific lesson.

I hope you e n j o y e d the sneak peak into my classroom!
